While hovering over the 61g ocean entry in a helicopter, very fluid pāhoehoe burst out of a tube beneath me, pouring directly onto the newly formed black sand beach, creating quite the steamy scene. Between a flurry of lava bubbles and stifling clouds of steam, I was fortunate to get fleeting glimpses of foamy, sandy whitewater sliding and dancing across the hot lava’s surface before rapidly vaporizing into steam. This is part of Bruce Omori’s #texturetuesday series and was shared on social media on July 7, 2020.
